On 23 September 1982 the mural was dedicated in memory of Roger Brooks, City Councillor and Chairman of Urban Renewal Action Committee by Councillor A.R. Shelford, The Mayor of Peterborough at the time. Roger Brooks was an important figure in the area and a real community champion who unfortunately passed away. Roger’s wife Sara Mumby met Roger when they both worked at Gladstone Street Community Association.
When Roger died the area around Link Road was under regeneration. Francis Gomila had been commissioned to paint the Link Road mural and the Council, with Sara, decided to dedicate it in memory of Roger.
