Deljit Singh’s parents owned a grocery shop in the 70s to late 80s on Cromwell Road. The store sold a variety of items from food to clothing. However it wasn’t all smooth sailing to begin with. Some of the other shop owners weren’t keen on the competition in the area and
spread false rumours about Asians being unhygienic. Deljit’s mum settled the situation by hiring an English lady to assist in the store which helped to resolve tension.
