Farsh Raoufi left Iran, his country of birth, in 1979 at a time where there was rising tension and conflict between countries. Although only 13 years of age Farsh was in danger of being signed up to military service and so, with help from his family, he made the solo journey to Peterborough. In the early 90s Farsh joined the Cambridgeshire Fire Service based on Dogsthorpe Road. He was drawn to the role because he wanted to help and protect people.
